What is a Sustainable Island Mobility Plan (SIMP)?
An SIMP is an integrated municipal strategic plan, aiming to improve the transportation of people and goods in the area.
It comprises various issues, such as boosting public transport, ensuring that vehicles can move around and park on the island safely, promoting environmentally-friendly modes of transport (cycling, walking), providing accessibility for vulnerable groups (elderly, children, mobility impaired), etc.
The SIMP will help gather those issues and make a collaborative decision on how they are going to be solved in the most efficient, environmentally-friendly and socially beneficial way. At the same time, it will constitute the most important tool for the municipality to seek funding, in order to bring about the necessary changes that will decisively improve the quality of life for everyone.
What is the role of residents and visitors?
Drafting the SIMP involves the residents, professionals and visitors of the area, in collaboration with specialised scientists and the Municipality (SIMP team).
They are all invited to take part in the open meetings, fill in questionnaires and talk about their needs, the problems they have to face during their everyday trips or other ideas and wishes of theirs that should be taken into account.

Qu’est-ce qu’un Plan de Mobilité insulaire durable (PMID) ?
Le PMID est un plan stratégique municipal intégré qui cible à l’amélioration du transport de personnes et de biens dans la région concernée.
Il comprend un grand nombre de sujets, comme le renforcement des transports publics, la circulation et le stationnement sécuritaires des véhicules, la promotion des moyens de transport respectueux de l’environnement (le cyclisme, la marche), l’accessibilité des groupes vulnérables (personnes âgées, enfants, personnes à mobilité réduite) etc.
Le PMID va aider l’enregistrement de ces problèmes et la prise d’une décision collective sur des solutions efficaces, respectueuses de l’environnement et socialement bénéfiques. En même temps, il sera l’outil principale de la Municipalité à la recherche de financement, afin d’effectuer les changements nécessaires qui vont améliorer la qualité de vie pour tous.
Quel est le rôle des habitants et des visiteurs ?
La rédaction du PMID s’effectue avec la participation des habitants, des professionnels et des visiteurs de la région, en collaboration avec des scientifiques spécialisés et la Municipalité (l’équipe du PMID)
Toutes les parties sont invitées à participer aux réunions ouvertes, remplir des questionnaires et parler de leurs besoins, de leurs problèmes pendant les déplacements quotidiens ou d’autres idées et souhaits qu’il faut prendre en compte.
